NRCT and Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) Discuss Co-funding Collaboration at the STS Forum 2024 – The 21st Annual Meeting
The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) from Switzerland held a meeting to discuss potential future collaboration between the two organizations on October 6, 2024, during the STS Forum 2024 – The 21st Annual Meeting at the Kyoto International Conference Center (ICC Kyoto) in Kyoto, Japan.
Dr. Wiparat De-ong, Director of NRCT, expressed that NRCT is committed to fostering research and innovation collaborations with international partners, including Switzerland. Global partnerships, she emphasized, are key to driving national development, addressing complex global challenges, and advancing scientific progress. She also proposed potential future collaboration opportunities between NRCT and SNSF, such as co-funding joint research projects on mutually relevant topics and researcher exchange programs between Thailand and Switzerland. These efforts aim to promote knowledge sharing, skill development, and networking between researchers from both countries.
Dr. Angelika Kalt, Executive Director of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), stated that SNSF is interested in expanding its international collaboration network beyond the European region, as most of its partnerships are currently within Europe. She mentioned that over 40% of researchers in Switzerland are from abroad. Regarding SNSF’s international collaboration efforts, there are two key formats: Bilateral Programs, which focus on specific topics, and the Lead Agency Agreement, which funds individual research projects.
The meeting was also attended by Ms. Saowanee Mungsujaritkarn, Deputy Director of NRCT; Ms. Sirinporn Diowtrakool, Research System Expert at NRCT; Associate Professor Dr. Anuch Khantachawana, Associate Professor Dr. Dusit Athinuwat, both academic experts; Ms. Kwansiri Chonyut, Director of the International Relations Group; and NRCT staff members.
