The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) held a meeting to discuss expanding collaboration, particularly on researcher exchanges and increasing opportunities for young researchers. The meeting took place on October 7, 2024, during the STS Forum 2024 – The 21st Annual Meeting at the Kyoto International Conference Center (ICC Kyoto) in Kyoto, Japan.

Dr. Wiparat De-ong, Director of NRCT, noted that NRCT and JSPS have enjoyed a long-standing partnership. This meeting presented a valuable opportunity to explore ways to strengthen their collaboration, especially in joint research projects and researcher exchanges. Such initiatives would provide researchers from both countries with more opportunities to develop their capabilities and build international networks. Dr. Wiparat also highlighted the importance of promoting young researchers, mentioning the HOPE Meeting program, which has attracted significant interest from Thai researchers. Additionally, she proposed ideas for furthering collaboration, particularly in basic research and the practical application of research outcomes, as well as increasing opportunities for Thai researchers to participate in JSPS programs.

He emphasized the need to develop new collaborative projects that strengthen academic ties between Thailand and Japan, with a focus on creating opportunities for young researchers and fostering research that meets the needs of both nations. The specific details of these initiatives will be explored further in future discussions.
